Florida Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a statewide program, funded by the Florida Department of Transportation, whose goal is to make it safer for children to walk and bicycle to school.
West Florida Regional Planning Council leads the educational component, training teachers and others how to implement bicycle and pedestrian safety lessons with children. Training children how to be competent and safe pedestrians and cyclists gives them lifelong safety skills they will use through their lives. While teaching safe walking and biking habits should start at home, schools and other educational center have an opportunity to reach all demographics of children with this valuable safety education.
To schedule a helmet fitting training, school presentation, or teacher training please contact SRTS Educational Coordinator, Caitlin Cerame.
