To assist the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in assessing transportation needs of rural areas in northwest Florida, the WFRPC administers the Rural Work Program. Through this program, WFRPC works directly with county staff and rural municipalities in the region to determine what the transportation needs are for each county. The needs identified by rural communities are compiled in a report presented to FDOT. The report includes maps of projects in the current FDOT work program as well as maps depicting requested projects. The report is then used by FDOT to evaluate and fund proposed projects in the non-urbanized areas.

WFRPC currently works with Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties as well as municipalities within these four counties.
