WFRPC manages two types of projects related to Brownfields: assessment and cleanup/redevelopment. Our experts have the ability to visit your site and determine what contamination is present, and we also manage a grant for revolving loan funds that allows us to assist with the cleanup and redevelopment of Brownfields.
Former Century Drug Store
In preparation for demolition activities, an asbestos survey was performed at the building located at the former Century Drug Store in Century, FL. The survey identified asbestos-containing materials within the building that required removal before demolition. Leveraging Escambia County CDBG funds, WFRPC provided a RLF sub grant to the Century Chamber of Commerce to assist in the demolition of the structure and to abate the asbestos. Upon completion of the asbestos abatement activities, demolition activities commenced and the building was razed.
Former Washington County Jail Facility
An assessment of the former Washington County Jail facility was conducted using WFRPC brownfields funding. The site consists of a two-story brick building located adjacent to the Washington County Courthouse in Chipley, Florida. The assessment of the jail found a former underground storage tank, as well as asbestos containing materials and lead based paint. Environmental work is ongoing at the site.
