The WFRPC works closely with the Florida Department of Emergency Management and emergency management agencies throughout the region on issues relating to preparedness and disaster planning. Our staff assists first responders and emergency planners in their quest to be ready for any contingency, natural or otherwise, that may threaten the region, its environment or its citizens and visitors. Staff are able to support a host of training, inspection, planning and evaluation initiatives that meet both state and federal requirements.
The LEPC held its biennial HazMat exercise on April 23, 2013 in Niceville. The exercise was designed to establish a learning environment for players to exercise the LEPC Comprehensive Emergency Plan and local procedures for responding to a hazardous materials incident. The exercise planning team was composed of numerous and diverse agencies, including the Okaloosa County Emergency Management, Regional HazMat Teams, Eglin AFB, the West Florida Regional Planning Council, and McKenzie Trucking. Training and planning are critical elements of the preparedness program for any type of emergency incident, natural, or otherwise. A total of eighty personnel participated in the exercise.
