Downtown Pensacola Technology Campus
The Pensacola-Escambia Promotion and Development Commission (PEDC) received a $2 million grant award from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) for infrastructure developments for the Downtown Pensacola Technology Campus. Construction includes the extension of Salamanca Street from Florida Blanca to Ninth Avenue, utility infrastructure, sidewalks and various other amenities. The West Florida Regional Planning Council provided PEDC technical assistance by administering the EDA grant. The now completed Technology Campus continues to elevate Pensacola’s profile as a high-tech destination and takes Pensacola to the next level of solidifying a technology cluster in downtown.
Gulf Coast Community College Health Sciences Building
The George G. Tapper Health Sciences Building at Gulf Coast Community College (GCCC) received a $9.9 million renovation and expansion. Financial support for the renovation came from multiple local matches and grant sources, including a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA). The expansion enables GCCC to meet emerging workforce needs, and to offer high quality programs in health sciences. GCCC continues to be a major supplier of local health care providers, as well as provide state of the art health care services to residents in our region.
