Status of Roadway Capacity Projects in Northwest Florida

Many roadway capacity projects in northwest Florida have recently been completed, are underway, or are scheduled to commence construction in the next five years. The following is an overview of the Long Range Transportation Plans (LRTPs) for the Florida-Alabama, Okaloosa-Walton, and Bay County Transportation Planning Organizations (TPOs) and the Florida Department of Transportation’s historical, existing, and tentative work programs.

Main Street Corridor Management Plan Completed

The purpose of the CMP is to identify operational and access management improvements and priorities needed to support all modes of transportation including roadway capacity, public transit and bicycle and pedestrian movements. In addition, the Scope of Services for this project called for including conceptual planning level examples of possible “gateway” concepts that can be utilized to aesthetically enhance the corridor and aid in downtown revitalization efforts.

50th Anniversary Open House a Golden Success!

More than 100 guests turned out to West Florida Regional Planning Council’s 50th Anniversary Open House on October 20. We were excited to see members from all over our seven-county area! All the programs and services of the planning council were on display including Long Range Transportation Plans, GIS, Transportation Symposia, bike helmet fittings, rideOn, the Rural Work Program, Bay Area Resource Council, brownfields cleanup and reuse, HAZMAT services (LEPC), Small Quantity Generators, and SHIP housing replacement. Many were surprised at the number and diversity of programs and services we can offer to counties and municipalities.

WFRPC Celebrates 50 Years With Anniversary Open House

The West Florida Regional Planning Council is celebrating 50 years of providing professional planning, coordinating and advisory services to local governments, state and federal agencies and the public. An open house will be held at council offices, 4081 E. Olive Rd., Ste. A in Pensacola on October 20 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in celebration of the golden anniversary.

FY 2016-2020 Project Priorities Process Completed

Each of the Transportation Planning Organizations (TPOs) staffed by the West Florida Regional Planning Council (Florida-Alabama, Okaloosa-Walton, and Bay County) are tasked with developing Project Priorities. Project Priorities are approved in September each year and are due to the State Departments of Transportation by October 1st. The adopted Project Priorities are used by the State Departments of Transportation to develop a five-year Work Program. This five-year Work Program is then used by the TPOs to develop a five-year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP is adopted by the TPOs at their June meetings each year.
