More than 100 guests turned out to West Florida Regional Planning Council’s 50th Anniversary Open House on October 20. We were excited to see members from all over our seven-county area! All the programs and services of the planning council were on display including Long Range Transportation Plans, GIS, Transportation Symposia, bike helmet fittings, rideOn, the Rural Work Program, Bay Area Resource Council, brownfields cleanup and reuse, HAZMAT services (LEPC), Small Quantity Generators, and SHIP housing replacement. Many were surprised at the number and diversity of programs and services we can offer to counties and municipalities.
District Director Sheilah Bowman from Congressman Jeff Miller’s office proudly read from the Congressional Record of the 113th Congress entered on behalf of our celebration. Commissioner Wilson Robertson read the proclamation from Escambia County in honor of our event. Proclamations were also received from Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Washington counties and the cities of Pensacola, Chipley and Niceville. A letter of congratulations was delivered from Senator Bill Nelson and resolutions were received from the Apalachee, North Central Florida, Northeast Florida, South Florida and Treasure Coast Regional Planning Councils.
A great time was had by all and we look forward to our next 50 years – and our next celebration with members and friends.
