About Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness
The West Florida Regional Planning Council (WFRPC) works closely with the Florida Department of Emergency Management and emergency management agencies throughout the region on issues relating to hazardous materials, homeland security, mitigation strategies, emergency preparedness and disaster planning.
The WFRPC assists first responders and emergency planners in their quest to be ready for any contingency, natural or otherwise, that may threaten the region and its citizens. Staff are able to support a host of training, inspection, planning and evaluation initiatives that meet state and federal requirements.

Local Emergency Planning Committee
The WFRPC staffs the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) for District 1. The LEPC prepares the regional hazardous materials emergency plan, which identifies facilities that use, produce and/or store hazardous substances within Northwest Florida.
In compliance with the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), the LEPC:
- Collects required Haz-Mat facility reports for public access
- Provides training classes and exercises
- Provides community outreach on EPCRA and Shelter-in-Place
- Provides technical assistance to reporting facilities
Information on hazardous materials and chemicals in your community may be obtained at the WFRPC office, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

- Facility, hazards analyses, vunerability and assessments using CAMEO (Computer-Aided Management of Emergency Operations)
- OSHA Mandated Training (Haz-Mat Awareness Level - 8 hours, Haz-Mat Operational Level - 16 hours, Specialized training to meet specific needs)
- Small Quantity Hazardous Waste Generator (SQG) Inspections
